Ben's surgery

This morning Ben had is back surgery on his L4-L5 lumbar disc herniation. We had to be at the hospital at 7:00am and surgery was at 9:30am. Pastor Ron came to visit Ben before his surgery and do a prayer with us. It was great and really calmed Ben down. We really appreciate him doing this. He's an amazing man and we're so lucky to have him as our pastor.

The doctor came to the waiting room at 11:00am. He said the surgery went well. My father-in-law was waiting with me the entire day. They transferred Ben to the recovery room around noon and told us that we wouldn't be able to see him for a couple hours so we went to lunch at Max & Erma's. We got back to the hospital shortly after 1:00 and Ben was still in recovery so we got his room number and decided to wait there for him.

It was 3:00 and Ben was still not back, so I asked the nurse what was going on. She called the recovery room and they said he was having a hard time coming out of anesthesia and his oxygen levels were down. She said that I could go down and see him, but for only a couple minutes. When we walked in the room, he looked like a ghost and could barely keep his eyes open. He was coughing up blood and I asked him why and he said from the trachea.

They finally brought him up to his room at 5:45pm. He was still coughing up blood and was having irregular breathing so they called the doctor and he had them do a chest x-ray. His doctor was off duty, but they had another doctor look at the x-ray and he didn't see anything irregular, but they will have Dr. Liss look at it tomorrow morning. Ben was actually breathing better and wasn't coughing anything up when his dad and I left.

Grandma Glenna is keeping the boys and they are doing great. Landon slept all night for her and even took his nap for her today. We really miss them, but this arrangement has really helped us. Thanks so much Mom for watching the boys!

Ben and I want to thank everyone for your prayers, calls and visits. It's great to know how many caring people are in our lives. THANKS SO MUCH!!
