Lava lamp

Ben and I were going through some stuff in the basement to post on craigslist. We found his old lava lamp and we thought we'd plug it in and show it to the boys. Once the lava warmed up, they were fascinated! We cleaned it up and put it in their room. They think it's so cool!

PINEWOOD DERBY

This afternoon was the pinewood derby. When we arrived, Ben and Lukas got in line for weigh-in and it was 4.99 oz. We didn't have to do anything! All the cars looked really great this year. Everyone did a wonderful job. As we figured, the tank didn't win a race, but were amazed how fast it did go. Lukas wanted a tank and that what he got! We were very disappointed that Lukas didn't even win best design/art award. They actually picked two winners and they had someone judge on the boys building/painting the car all by himself. Lukas didn't mind that he didn't win. He had fun anyway and that's all it really is about. We told him "don't worry, there's always next year!"

Building Lukas' Derby Tank

Ben got a jump start on Lukas' derby car this year!

We finished it last week, but I just got around to this post. As you'll notice, Lukas wanted an Army TANK this year.

Ben did a wonderful JOB with cutting and sanding it! He built it so that the top of the tank spins 360 degrees. Lukas painted it and Mommy touched it up a little bit to define the camo lines. After it dried, Lukas applied some army decal stickers and Ben sprayed it with clear coat.

Ben took it to the post office to check the weight and we are at exactly 5 ounces. Amazing... lets hope the scales are the same when derby day arrives! We are so pleased with the turn-out of his tank. We are hoping he gets "best design/show"! His Pinewood Derby is this Sunday. Wish Lukas luck and we'll update everyone this weekend!

Sled Riding

Today we went sled riding!

This was the first time we took both boys on a hill this big. Ben decided to wait at the bottom of the hill. Lukas wanted to go first. I got him all set up and gave him a push and he flipped over right away. He came back up and we started over. Almost half way down, he dumped it again. Finally, on the third try he went zinging down the hill over 30mph. In a flash, I see that Ben literally jumped on Lukas to get him stopped. In the meantime, Landon just kept yammering about "his turn". At this point, I'm telling him to hold on because Daddy is coming back up with Lukas. When they got back up the hill, Ben said "no way are these boys going down again by themselves". I grabbed a sled and Landon crawled on with me and off we flew. Landon loved it! What a big difference from last winter. He didn't even like to step on the snow last year and this year we can't get him out of it. It was such a big hill for little Landon that I would pull him back up in the sled. On the second trip up the hill, he insisted on pulling the sled. He said "Mommy, do you want to ride?" He's too precious. We were so impressed with how well he did! We switched boys and Lukas did not like riding with me. We had snow flying everywhere and it got all over his face and he was so upset. He told me that I'm a "horrible sled rider"... LOL! Of course, that was the end of us riding together.

We all had such a great time. I think that Ben and I had more fun than the boys. We forgot how much fun it was to go sled riding. We can't wait to take the boys again!!

Boy Stuff!

Grandma was over last weekend and brought Talen and Tyler to play with the boys. They spent most of their time playing "Army". Lukas and Tyler put on his army uniforms and gave the little boys hats to wear. They made fortes on their bunk beds and with the bean bag downstairs. It was so funny to watch them play. We were impressed with how well Landon and Talen played with the older boys. They had so much fun!

Lukas' Traxxas

New Year's weekend the weather warmed up and Lukas was able to run his traxxas stampede outside and was in his glory. He loves his truck from Santa. He sure is one cool little dude! Now Daddy and Lukas have hobby to enjoy together:D

Our little BUZZ!

Nanny (Kelly's Mom) got Landon these really cute PJ's for Christmas. The set came with Buzz Lighter and Woody. He had to wear his buzz pj's first. Landon picked out these slippers months ago and they go perfect with his new pj's. Buzz is definitely his favorite toy of all his Christmas gifts.

To make an end is to make a beginning...

We rang in the New Year with a great group of friends and all of our children. It was so much fun. This was the first time we went somewhere since Landon was born. We are really glad we went. We thought we were going to leave early because of our little one, but he was like the energizer bunny and kept going, and going, and going. It must have been all that "wine" AKA "Sparkling grape juice". We let the boys do a toast before we left with our two wine glasses we bought on our honeymoon. They were calling it grape wine all night. They thought it was so neat and they were the perfect size glasses for them. We bought two bottles and took the other one to the party with us.
